New reading books will be given out on Fridays and should be read twice at home by the following Thursday please. Book bags and reading books should be brought to school each day so that staff can listen to children read.

Any homework that is given, will have the date it is due to be handed in  clearly marked on it.

Autumn Term

We are very excited to welcome our new starters into Class 1 and can't wait to get to know you better.

You can find detailed information about our learning under the 'Curriculum' section in 'Long Term Planning'.

Here is a quick overview for our key learning in the first part of the Autumn term:

English- we will begin by reading  Jack and the Beanstalk and then variations of this text within out English lessons. This text will allow us to explore both fiction and non-fiction writing. We will also be studying a poetry unit.

Within our wider story time we will be reading and discussing a variety of traditional tales, chosen by the children and guided by their interests.

All children will take part in Read Write Inc activities everyday , practicing reading and then writing letter sounds.  Children are grouped after the first 3 weeks according to the phonic knowledge and the books they read will be in line with their phonic knowledge.

Maths- we will look at Place Value, Number , Addition and Subtraction and multiplication and division.

Reception  children will  begin/ further their work on number and will be exploring maths through continuous provision.

In RE, we will explore the theme of 'Family' through the topics; Myself (YR), Families (Y1) and Beginnings (Y2)

In Science we will explore seasonal changes, learning all about Autumn; the weather, what clothes we need to wear , what we might see and how animals cope. We will also begin our topic 'Animals including Humans'

In PE we will be doing gymnastics and learning  how to do 3 and 4 point balances.

Foundation subjects-  In Art, we will be learning about the the artist L.S.Lowry.  In music,  we will exploring music and singing using Charanga. In Computing, we will be focusing on writing  algorithms. We will be focusing on  Geography topic for  this half term  and our topic will be 'Weather and Seasons'. We will continue to use our Life to the Full scheme to deliver Relationship and Health Education (more information can be found in the Long Term Planning section).

Reception and Year 1 children will have access to continuous provision indoors and outdoors throughout the day. Year 2 children will continue to have access to our indoor and outdoor areas, completing focused 'challenges' linked with their learning.

Remote Learning in Class 1

In the event of the need to isolate because of Covid-19, remote learning for Class 1 will take place on Tapestry . Each day there will be 4 tasks uploaded; a pre-recorded phonics lesson, a maths input and task, an English task and then a task relating to other curriculum areas.

I have also added an 'Additional Activities' sheet for both Reception and Year 1. This is bank of activities that you can chose from for daily practice in English and Maths. You can find them below as well as in the 'Documents' section of Tapestry.

It is vitally important that we have daily contact with each child, Tapestry is a quick and easy way to do this, uploading pictures and videos of your child's work as well as comments. If you are unable to do this, a quick email or telephone call to let me know how the day's learning has gone will be fine.
