The Year of the Eucharist

Bishop Robert has announced the Year of the Eucharist is to now be celebrated in the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle and has been launched simultaneously with the launch of the Synod. 

The aims of the Year of the Eucharist are:

To celebrate the Eucharist at the heart of the life and mission of the Church and to gather people back.

To grow as a Diocese in our love and appreciation of the Eucharist.

To deepen our appreciation of the liturgical celebration of the Eucharist through the rites.

To revitalise and renew our faith through a deepening prayer and devotion of the Eucharist.

To go out and serve the world through the nourishment of the Eucharist.

The Year of the Eucharist will be celebrated in Episcopal Areas, Partnerships, Parishes and Schools and will provide a framework of prayer for the Diocese’s participation in the first stage of the Synod.

The first part of the Diocesan Year of the Eucharist, ‘Blessed are those called to the Supper of the Lamb’, is wrapped in the theme: ‘In Communion with the Father’ and follows the Synod called by Pope Francis. The Holy Father tells us that by his gracious will, God gathers us together as people of one faith. The communion we share finds its deepest roots in the love and unity of Christ who reconciles us to the Father and unites us with each other in the Holy Spirit. Together, we are inspired by listening to the Word of God, through the living Tradition of the Church, and grounded in the faith tat we share. We all have a role to play in discerning and living out God’s call for his people. (Synod Vademecum, 2021)

This Diocesan Year aims to celebrate the Eucharist at the heart of the life and mission of the Church and to gather people back to the Mass and the Sacraments. We are to grow as a Diocese in our love and appreciation of the Eucharist. We are to deepen our appreciation of its celebration through the liturgy. We are to revitalise and renew our faith through a deepening prayer and devotion of the Eucharist. And we are to go out and serve the world through the nourishment we receive.

Prayer for the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Almighty and everlasting God,

You have taken up body and soul

into the heavenly glory the Immaculate Virgin Mary,

Mother of Your Son: Grant, we beseech You,

that, ever intent upon heavenly things,

we may be worthy to be partakers of her glory.

Through Jesus Christ Your Son, our Lord,

who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit,

One God, forever and ever.

Pentecost Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Holy Spirit of light and love, you are the substantial love of the Father and the Son; hear my prayer.
Bounteous bestower of most precious gifts, grant me a strong and living faith which makes me accept all revealed truths and shape my conduct in accord with them. Give me a most confident hope in all divine promises which prompts me to abandon myself unreservedly to you and your guidance.
Infuse into me a love of perfect goodwill, and act according to God's least desires. Make me love not only my friends but my enemies as well, in imitation of Jesus Christ who through you offered himself on the Cross for all people.
Holy Spirit, animate, inspire, and guide me, and help me to be always a true follower of you.

Prayer to the Sacred Heart of Jesus

O most holy heart of Jesus, fountain of every blessing, I adore you, I love you, and with lively sorrow for my sins I offer you this poor heart

of mine. Make me humble, patient, pure and wholly obedient to your will. Grant, Good Jesus, that I may live in you and for you.

Protect me in the midst of danger. Comfort me in my afflictions. Give me health of body, assistance in my temporal needs,

your blessing on all that I do, and the grace of a holy death.

Month of May Dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary

Prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary

Most holy Virgin Immaculate, my Mother Mary, to thee who art the Mother of my Lord, the queen of the universe, the advocate, the hope,

the refuge of sinners, I who am the most miserable of all sinners, have recourse this day.
I venerate thee, great queen, and I thank thee for the many graces thou has bestowed upon me even unto this day; in particular for

having delivered me from the hell which I have so often deserved by my sins. I love thee, most dear Lady; and for the love I bear thee,

I promise to serve thee willingly forever and to do what I can to make thee loved by others also.
I place in thee all my hopes for salvation; accept me as thy servant and shelter me under thy mantle, thou who art the Mother of mercy.

And since thou art so powerful with God, deliver me from all temptations, or at least obtain for me the strength to overcome them until death. From thee I implore a true love for Jesus Christ.
Through thee I hope to die a holy death. My dear Mother, by the love thou bearest to Almighty God, I pray thee to assist me always, but most of all at the last moment of my life. Forsake me not then, until thou shalt see me safe in heaven, there to bless thee and sing of thy mercies through all eternity. Such is my hope.

Prayer to St Joseph

Glorious Saint Joseph,

pattern of all who are devoted to toil,

obtain for me the grace to toil in the spirit of penance,

in order thereby to atone for my many sins;

to toil conscientiously,

putting devotion to duty before my own inclinations;

to labour with thankfulness and joy,

deeming it an honour to employ and to develop,

by my labour, the gifts that I have received from Almighty God;

to work with order, peace, moderation, and patience,

without ever shrinking from weariness and difficulties;

to work above all with a pure intention

and with detachment from self,

having always before my eyes the hour of death

and the accounting which I must then render of time ill-spent,

of talents unemployed, of good undone,

and of my empty pride in success,

which is so fatal to the work of God.

All for Jesus, all through Mary,

all in imitation of thee, O Patriarch Joseph!
This shall be my motto in life and in death.

Class 2

To mark the end of our Lent topic Class 2 planned and took part in a liturgy.

We chose a scripture reading and decided to gather in a circle holding hands.

We also reflected on our Lenten promises that we had recorded on crosses at start of the topic,

we placed these within the circle as we listened to a hymn.

A Prayer for Easter

Oh God, who this day by Your only-begotten Son vanquishing death, has unlocked for us the gate of eternity, help us to attain the desires to which You have led us by Your inspirations. We ask this through the same Christ our Lord. Amen.
Oh God, as we renew our Baptismal vows, help us to be made worthy of Eternal Life, that we may always seek to do Your will in our hearts and minds, that we may show others Your saving grace and Your love. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
Oh God, who makes the faithful to be of one mind and will, grant that we, Your people; may love what you command and desire what You promise so that, amid the changing things of this world, our hearts may be fixed where true joys are to be found. We ask this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

O God, Who wast pleased that the eternal Word,
according to the declaration of the angel,
should take flesh in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary:​​​​​​​
Give to our humble petitions; and grant that we,
who believe her to be truly the Mother of God, may be helped by her prayers.

Ukraine Refugee Appeal/Non-Uniform Day

Ash Wednesday

Today we celebrate Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent.
Deacon Paul will join us in school for our Liturgy and the distribution of ashes.
It is lovely that we are now able to join together as a whole school community on this day of Prayer for Peace.

Class 2

Class 2 gathered together for a class liturgy to mark the end of our ‘Journeys’ topic.

We sang the hymn ‘As I kneel before you’ and listened to a psalm.

We also shared how we are going to journey with Jesus.

Class 2

Class 2 have been learning about the Feast of Our Lady in RE.

We talked about how we can pray the Rosary and in Class we prayed one decade of the Mysteries of Light.

During Lent we will continue to say the Rosary each week.  

Daily prayer to the Holy Family for the month of February

The month of February is dedicated to the Holy Family, the perfect example of family life for all Christians.

O most loving Jesus, Who by Thy surpassing virtues and the example of Thy home life didst hallow the household in which Thou

didst choose to live while on earth, mercifully look down upon this family, whose members, humbly prostrate before Thee, implore

Thy protection. Remember that we are Thine, bound and consecrated to Thee by a special devotion.

Protect us in Thy mercy, deliver us from danger, help us in our necessities, and impart to us strength to persevere always in the

imitation of Thy Holy Family, so that, by serving Thee and loving Thee faithfully during this mortal life, we may at length give Thee

eternal praise  in heaven.

O Mary, dearest Mother, we implore thy assistance, knowing that thy divine Son will hearken to thy petition.

And do thou, most glorious patriarch, St. Joseph, help us with thy powerful patronage, and place our petitions in Mary's hands,

that

she may offer them to Jesus Christ.

God of compassion,
whose Son Jesus Christ, the child of Mary,
shared the life of a home in Nazareth,
and on the cross drew the whole human family to himself:
strengthen us in our daily living
that in joy and in sorrow
we may know the power of your presence
to bind together and to heal;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
